Activities to do in Monza besides the Italian Grand Prix

Monza, located north of Milan, is increasingly merging with the metropolis. A spacious pedestrian arcade in the historic center with beautiful stores and the 14th-century cathedral make visiting Monza worthwhile. There are also three churches worth seeing in the center of Monza.

The first is Monza Cathedral. Its origins date back to the year 595 and to the then Queen Teodelinda, who had a church built near her palace dedicated to San Giovanni Battista. The Lombard iron crown (Corona del Ferro) from the 9th century is kept in the treasury of the Museo Serpero in the cathedral. It was used to crown Charles V and Napoleon I as King of Italy. Other churches in the pedestrian zone are Santa Maria in Strada and Santa Maria del Carrobiolo.

The Villa Reale park with golf and polo courses and a racecourse is a popular weekend destination for the Milanese. The pedestrian zone with the Rinascente department store is a lovely shopping street and is particularly crowded on Saturday afternoons for shopping and window shopping.
